“How can I improve my child's health and help her lose weight?”
My 11 year old son has become overweight from covid-19 lockdowns and being home.

One of the big keys to weight loss/control is to cut out all the "junk" foods - don't buy them so the temptation is not there nor the opportunity to eat those high calorie-high sugary foods. Avoid fast food and take-out meals. Dessert does not need be nightly - it can become a treat. Watch portion sizes and wait 20 minutes before having seconds so the brain has time to catch up with the stomach and realize it is full. Ramp up the daily exercise - ride bikes - brisk walks - outdoor games.
Hello
Yes physical activity is difficult during this time so diet is more important. Replacing juices and sodas with water, as well as fruits and vegetables for snacks is a start.

The best thing is to set a good example and eat healthy yourself and don't have unhealthy food in the house. I remember my son used to ask why we don't have chips, bread or ice cream in the house and I told him that I don't want to be unhealthy. He then ate healthy options because I didn't provide him options of fast food, candy, treats, chips, etc. He learned to eat healthy by watching me do the same. It all starts with the parent and works down from there.
