You can do stretches that can help stretch the muscles and you may feel some general popping in joints but it won't solve the specific joints that need to move. Proper examination from a PT or Chiropractor can help with that
Many patients arrive at my office with some history of self manipulation. It can bring relief but the missing component is specificity. That means correlating the exam findings with radiology to determine the best directional force to apply to get optimal result. As a primary spine care provider, I prefer a more professional approach to address the problem.
Great question! The core focus of chiropractic practice and procedure is to address disturbed joint biomechanics and the associated effects on nerve system function. This is achieved through the skilled procedure termed the spinal adjustment or manipulation. Chiropractors (DCs) spend many years in graduate school to learn this art because they deal with sensitive structures involving the spinal column that protects the spinal cord. The spinal cord is an extension of the brain, and is part the central nervous system (CNS). Because of of the close relationship between the spine and the nervous system, abnormal or dysfunctional spinal movement can adversely impact nerve function affecting the communication between the brain and body. When a DC adjusts these dysfunctional segments and restores appropriate spinal movement patterns, this contributes to more appropriate sensory input to the brain and spinal cord. Chiropractic is an inherently conservative approach to healthcare, and the profession values its role as being the leading authority in spinal adjustments and manipulation. Archer Irby, DC is a leading chiropractor in Brooklyn, NY, who has over 25 years of chiropractic management and patient care.
Hello, You cannot, stretching can help relax and release muscle, yet chiropractic alignment involves certain positions of the spinal structure to get it realigned. Thank you,
Unfortunately you cant. A neurological/orthopedic examination is necessary to determine if nerves are irritated, discs are affected and if the vertebrae are out of position, called subluxations. If they are present then it takes specific procedures to move the vertebrae into their normal positions. Jay H Schwartz, DC, DIBCN, DIBE
