Celiac disease occurs in patients with certain genetic backgrounds. There is nothing you or she did to cause it.
Celiac, like many things, results from a combination of genetics and environment. All patients have a genetic profile that puts one at risk for the disease, but the manifestation of the disease varies considerably, with some patients remaining asymptomatic their entire lives, or others having obvious disease that might begin at an early age or later in life. It can appear at almost any age. The current treatment is gluten free diet.
