Get on the side of the bed which you will be getting out of, turn on your side slowly while lying down, and gradually sit up as you roll out of the bed. It would be great to have someone in front of you to take your hands to steady you as you go to stand up.
First place feet on floor, then push up with hands and feet. Have a commode by the bedside as well.
However is most comfortable for you. Many patients find it easier to roll on their side first and then push themselves up. It can be more painful in the recovery phase to arise in a "sit-up" fashion.
