If your colonoscopy was normal then the cramps should resolve spontaneously.
It is not uncommon to have some abdominal cramps and bloating, after the colonoscopy. This happens because air is pumped into the colon to inflate the colon . This allows the doctor to perform thorough and detailed examination of the colon. This extra amount of gas can cause abdominal cramps which generally go away by the time patient is ready to be discharged. The cramps and bloating can be reduced by using CO2, instead of room air.
Cramps after colonoscopy are common. Stay on clear liquids and lie down on your stomach slowly rolling from the right side to the left with your bottom elevated. Depending on the prep, cramps can last several hours.
You pass the gas and you run on your colon.
Taking a small laxative like dulcolax can help stimulate removal of air that was infused during the colonoscopy. Passing gas and restarting light foods along with time will relieve the symptoms.
