How do you know if your tooth root is exposed?

I am a 21 year old male. I wonder how can I know if my tooth root is exposed?

If your gum has receded, your root will be exposed. It typically will look quite yellow in colour and often will cause cold sensitivity. Good luck.

You would usually have sensitivity if your tooth root is exposed. If you have had a root canal or if your nerve is receded, you may not have sensitivity.
Well there are alot of signs such as the texture of the surface, the contour of the surface but in in very simplistic terms most times the root surface is a little darker than or even slightly yellow compared to the enamel of the tooth, so when you see a change in color close to the gumline a lot of times that can be an indication that root is exposed. Also, sometimes exposed roots can be sensitive at the gumline when the root is exposed where the enamel part of the tooth is generally not sensitive, this is due to the fact that the root was originally insulated with gum before but when it is exposed the insulation, the gum, that used to be there is no longer there. Hope that helps, Dr. K
