Chiropractic adjustments work great to release tension and reduce stiffness in the neck and shoulders. A local doc can also recommend some stretches and exercises for you to do at home!
Tension in the neck and upper shoulders is commonly caused during sleep, working on a computer, exercise and stress. Gentle stretching, yoga, pilates, and other stress reduction techniques can be quite helpful.

If there is a misalignment of the joints of the neck and upper back then a Chiropractic adjustment is in order.
Unfortunately, this is a question that prompts more questions than answers. Depends on what the problem is. Constant tension on the neck and shoulders could be from an unstable segment or more in the neck, or a reversal of the curvature of the neck, or something else. Before we identify an appropriate solution, we have to find out what the problem is.
I treat muscle tension and trigger points with a cold laser, deep tissue work, vibration, and my Sigma Instruments Impulse Machine.
A lot of head and shoulder tension comes from poor posture. Here are two strengthening kits for you to use at home to resolve that problem:

If you have stooped shoulders, get the Posture Relief Kit; otherwise, Neck Relief Kit will be enough. Chiropractic care is also very effective at relieving neck and shoulder tension.
Good luck resolving this problem, please don't wait to take action, you're just 20 years old, nip it in the bud now to avoid decades of chronic neck and shoulder pain.
Keeping good posture and taking deep belly breaths will help. I also recommend going to a Chiropractor.
