First. find a good orthopedic surgeon. Second. complain to the surgeon about your knee pain, which knee, when it started, and how it started. Then the doctor will examine you and decide which testing should be done, If any to be able to give you a good Diagnosis And advice aboutPresent and future treatment.
Rest, ice, compression, if not allergic then acetaminophen alternating with ibuprofen or naproxen. Also, range of motion and strengthening. If locking, catching, buckling, or giving away or an injury then you may need to see an orthopedic provider.
It starts with examination and proper diagnosing of the issue that is causing pain in the knee. From that point we can design a plan of care that we feel would be best for that particular issue. It can range from adjusting the knee joint, ultrasound therapy, cold laser, therapeutic exercises among other options.
Treating knee pain depends on what is causing the pain. There are many ligaments that attach the patella. If it a patellar tracking issue, that can be helped by stretching the IT band muscle and strengthening the VMO muscle of the quadricep. I'd recommend finding out what the cause of the knee pain is through orthopedic exams that can be done at a Chiropractic office or knee specialist/Orthopedic Doctor.
