“How long are you under anesthesia for a root canal?”
I am a 23 year old male. I want to know how long are you under anesthesia for a root canal?

Depending on the type of anesthesia used, it could be as long as 2-3 hours in total but can vary patient to patient.
Typically, the local numbing given for a filling is adequate for a root canal therapy. It depends what area of the mouth the tooth is located and what numbing medicine is used- how long the tooth is numb. Dentist usually want the tooth to be numb longer than the procedure will take. Once the nerve is removed, the tooth could be worked on without numbing. Cool, right!
Under anesthesia? Usually you are not "put under." Just a "regular shot" of local anesthetic ("novocaine") is all you get, numbness lasting maybe 2 or 3 hours (or more depending on the anesthetic used). Your dentist will determine what they are using and can answer you specifically.
Good Luck.
