How long do endoscopy biopsy results take?

I will have a stomach biopsy. How long do endoscopy biopsy results take?

They can take up to two weeks. Depending on the pathologic finding and if there is some additional cell staining for final diagnosis. Most of the time the specimen is received and after preparing the tissue overnight the next day that tissue is stained to see the cells, then the pathologist looks in the microscope to determine if the cells are benign or malignant and if there are additional staining necessary for the diagnosis. The biopsies I read are done 48 hrs. after the procedure

You are asking about the return time for a stomach biopsy that presumably will be performed during an endoscopy. Depending on the institution, the biopsy results can be immediately available or take at most a couple of days.

It is best to discuss the results of this test with the physician who ordered or requested the test.
