How long do you wear braces after jaw surgery?

I am an 18 year old male. I want to know how long do you wear braces after jaw surgery?

Each person’s case is different, but it usually is between 6 to 12 months. We do what is called presurgical orthodontics to remove all decompensation that has happened over the years. So many times, you will look worse before the surgery. For example, if you have an “overbite,” it may get bigger after our decompensation of the teeth. This will allow the oral surgeon to do the maximum amount of movement. After surgery, we then do postsurgical orthodontics to finalize the bite as well as fine tune. We are also watching for stability. Depending on the type of surgery and how much still needs to be done, it can take anywhere from 6 to 12 months as I mentioned.
I hope this helps.

Usually, total treatment time is 30 months... 15 months before and 15 months after surgery.

The time in braces after jaw surgery varies significantly depending on the surgery outcome and how much additional tooth movement is needed to get the bite into a final stable position and close all the spaces. The oral surgeon usually likes to wait for about 2 months before they release the patient to the orthodontist for the orthodontist to continue their treatment. The bones have to heal for those two months after surgery. Typically it is 9 months of treatment with braces if everything goes well with the surgery, But if the surgery is not completely successful then the treatment time will take longer in braces after surgery.
