How long does it take for a pinched nerve in the neck to heal?

I have a pinched nerve in my neck. Will it go away on its own? How long does it take for a pinched nerve in the neck to heal?

It all depends on how it started, age, specifically the pain is. Constant entrapment of an area can include subluxation(misalignment), spasm of a localized region, arthritic spur. Regardless, seeing a Chiropractor will be able to determine what it is. Usually these conditions are self limiting, but you did not state how long or how it starred. I.e trauma.
Sometimes a pinched nerve will go away on its own but most of the time it wont. Depends on how severe and if your doing any neck stretches, applying heat, etc. Most of the time you need an adjustment and some muscle work to get the pinching off the nerve. Hope this helps! Thank you for your time!
Depending on the cause of the pinched nerve, it can take days, weeks, or even longer. Best case, it is simply some muscle tightness or spasm putting pressure on the nerve. Worst case, it could be a herniated disc requiring surgery. If the pain in the neck is radiating or traveling down the arm or up into the head, schedule a visit with your chiropractor to have it evaluated. In the meantime, ice is the best place to start. Apply it to the area where the pain starts, 20 minutes on and then 20 minutes off. Be sure to keep a thin towel or t-shirt between you and the ice pack to prevent any frostbite or skin irritation.
Good question. It depends on the cause of the irritation to the nerve. Usually it is due to physical pressure on the nerve and once the cause is determined and corrected, healing can take place. Every case is different but you will start feeling better during the process. Jay H Schwartz, DC, DIBCN, DIBE
Should take about 2 weeks before you get great results. I suggest finding a chiropractor that focuses on movement as their treatment. Look for chiropractors that say they are "functional" or certifications in Mckenzie Therapy for the best results.
