If diagnosed properly and it isn't face swelling, it will usually take 2 days.
Depending on the infection and its severity, antibiotics would start to work within 1 to 2 days and improvement should start by day 2 or 3. Of course, you need to be on the correct antibiotic and taking the right dose. If the infection is from a root canal, then the root canal should be treated as soon as possible by your endodontist. If untreated, the infection returns when you are done with the antibiotics.
Good Luck.
It just depends on how fast you heal. It can take anywhere from a week to 2. Contact your dentist if it gets worse.
Typically, it takes 24 to 48 hours for the antibiotic to start working after the first dose. The swelling should start to resolve in about a weeks time. If you don’t seem to get better after a few days on antibiotics, call your dentist as he may need to change to a new antibiotic.
It can take up to at least 48 hours before the effects of antibiotics begin to work. However, if your tooth is infected, the swelling may not go away until you get a root canal.
