Gums need to be healthy at all times with or without braces. If healing is a problem, then oral hygiene is not up to par. No red, puffy, bleeding gums at any time, but pink, tight, and dippled (like an orange peel). Extra care is needed with braces, a water pic is a good investment.
I'm not really sure what you're asking, as braces are bonded to the teeth and have nothing to do with the gums. Unless you're referring to the soreness. Soreness usually lasts a few days to maybe a week after braces are put on, and then adjusted. "Tylenol" or ibuprofen usually help. Warm salty water rinses might also help a little. Be sure to do a good (but gentle) job of brushing and flossing to keep everything clean, too. Platypus flossers work really well. Good luck and feel better.
If you have taken good care of your teeth and gums during the braces treatment there should be no issues about gum healing. If you have not and the gums are inflamed it can take a week or more after a professional cleaning. The use of Peridex can be very helpful.
I would suggest that you should get a WaterPik. it helps clean around braces and can help the gums to heal. You can order one from Amazon for $70 and is well worth the investment. Use this after brushing and flossing.
