I have periodontal disease and want to treat it. How long does it take to cure periodontal disease?

1 Answer

You cannot cure periodontal disease, but you can control the disease process by treating the disease in the active phase (bleeding gums, bad breath, abscess…). Treatments may include scaling and root planing (deep scales), surgery, and frequent (3-4 months) re-care appointments (periodontal maintenance, improving your dental hygiene, particularly daily flossing). Once you lose bone, it’s gone. During the healing phase, you will achieve tissue reattachment, putting you in a stable phase. Remember: You cannot cure periodontal disease, but you can control it!
