Your doctor uses an ultrasound or CT scan to localize exactly where the tumor is located. Once is localized, if it is in the gallbladder of the lymph node, a local anesthetic injection is put in the skin over the area. Once the area is numbed the dr. insert the needle through the skin and into the tumor. He takes a small piece of tissue for the pathologist . The procedure takes, depending what type of biopsy, transcutaneous or laparoscopic biopsy, takes from 30 minutes to one hour forty five minutes. Most of the time spent is preparation the patient of aseptic technics before the procedure. Thank you.
I have never heard of someone getting a biopsy of the gallbladder. Are you sure that it is not something else that is being biopsied?
