I will have abdominal hernia surgery. How long does it take to get well after abdominal hernia surgery?

It depends on how healthy the person was prior to Surgery, but 6-12 months.
Most people’s surgical wounds are healed by the time they are six weeks post-op at which time most people can return to their normal activities. Make sure you have a discussion with your surgeon about when it is the right time for you to return to your normal activities because we are all different. It takes about a year for the human body to completely heal so you may have some pain and/or minor discomfort for up to a year after the surgery but you shouldn’t need pain medication to treat any pain or discomfort.
