The progression of glaucoma varies among individuals and the timeline for vision loss can be unpredictable. In some cases with proper management, it can take years or even decades for significant vision impairment to occur. Regular eye exams and early detection are crucial for preventing further damage.
You should ask this question to your doctor who manages your glaucoma. Thanks for asking
First you may never go blind! Make sure keep in close contact with your glaucoma doctor, take your drops as directed and don't worry. Glaucoma is usually a slowly progressive condition, and can take decades before there is significant loss. Get your glaucoma doctors opinion on what the future will look like.
This is a great question which you should be optimistic about. There are many types of glaucoma, with many different treatments including eyedrops and surgery. The ultimate goal of your eye doctor is to preserve your vision and your visual fields (side vision) by utilizing all of the options available. Your age, medical conditions, medications, your current visual status, your corneal thickness, your optic nerve cup to disc ratio, and the type of glaucoma that you have will determine your current and future options in order to maintain
what vision that you have. You should always keep your appointments with your glaucoma specialist because your eye pressures must be measured regularly, your eyes will need to be dilated in order to check your optic nerves,
and visual field tests will be done in order to determine if you actually are losing any vision. And a test called pachymetry will be done in order to check your corneal thickness. You should be confident that with all of the tools available including new medications and modern technology advances, that your vision should be OK. But this factor should always be discussed with your doctor because if your vision does change, other treatments may be necessary. Good luck and best wishes.
End stage glaucoma is a serious condition. Glaucoma progression is usually slow though. Depends on the stage of glaucoma and type too.
