Hi, Dr. Willkomm here. It usually takes two to four days after colon surgery until normal colon function returns. In some cases it can take longer. This is know as an “ileus.”
May take 4-7 days. What is more important is passing gas which means your bowel function is coming back
Potassium, magnesium and calcium electrolytes have to be optimized but it can take several days.
It depends on the type of surgery. That is a question best answered by your surgeon.
Bowel movements can occur within 24-48 hours after surgery. It may take 4-6 weeks before your bowel habits return to a normal pattern.
