I am a 25 year old male. I want to know how long does it take your gums to heal after a deep cleaning?

Thank you for the question. Usually it takes several weeks but always follow up after treatment to be sure the treatment was effective and remember additional treatment may be necessary
Surprisingly, it only takes a few days to recover from a "deep cleaning" if you follow the home care instructions faithfully. All of the offending debris is removed from your teeth at the deep cleaning, giving your gums a chance to finally recover and turn pink. Most people notice a difference in health of their gums after a day of recovery. Home care and follow-up treatment is key to a quick recovery.
It depends on how invasive your deep cleaning was. The deeper and larger the tarter is, the more sore you will be. If you use proper hygiene to keep the food out as well as medicated mouth rinses as directed, your gums can feel normal within a day. If soreness continues, then a bacterial infection may be present.
Generally, a deep cleaning has very little post operative discomfort. You may notice some soreness in the gums following treatment but this should dissipate several days after the cleaning. Some patients report cold sensitivity of their teeth after a deep cleaning. This is due to the root surfaces of the teeth being cleaned of debris and exposed to the environment for the first time in a while. I recommend my patients start using sensitive toothpaste before and after a deep cleaning. It will take approximately 4-6 weeks before the gums are healed. At this time, you would need to return to your dentist for a re-evaluation to check the pocket depths and condition of the gums. If an area is being stubborn and not healing properly, it may need some further treatment with antibacterial solutions or laser therapy.
