“How long does vein ablation take to heal?”
I had vein ablation for my varicose veins 5 days ago. How long does vein-ablation take to heal?

I'm not sure what you mean by “heal.” The puncture site will close in about 48 hours. The saphenous vein is closed immediately. Inflammatory changes in the vein can cause pain for up to 3 weeks for a radio frequency ablation, and longer for a laser ablation. It takes about 4 weeks for associated varicose veins to resolve.
Usually it takes just a few days to heal from a venous ablation. Using cold compression can help with any local discomfort. While the bruising disappears quickly and is variable in amount for different patients, it is recommended that patients not do any heavy lifting for a period of two weeks after the treatment as sometimes the closure can open up. Wearing compression garments post procedure also alleviates the postprocedural discomfort.
