Most gallbladder operations (cholecystectomy) are performed laparoscopically or robotically. The majority of patients are released on the same day and can be up walking as tolerated.
In most cases, there is no need for bed rest after laparoscopic cholecystectomy. In many cases, these cases can be done on a day surgery basis.
Should be walking around immediately. High risk of blood clots and pneumonia with bed rest.
Bed rest is not recommended. That being said, you should avoid strenuous activities for a few weeks after surgery. You are encouraged to walk as much as possible. You should be safe to get in and out of bed, walk up and down stairs, and to get in and out of a car.
This is best answered by a surgeon. Recovery in the hospital is usually 1-2 days. No bed rest needed after that once you get home.
Bed rest is not recommended after laparoscopic removal of the gallbladder. You will need to walk, you may go up and down stairs, even do light shopping.
