It depends on what type of extraction was required to remove your tooth. Generally speaking the most discomfort happens within the first 3 days following an extraction. Take Ibuprofen or Alleve if you are able to take those medications. And rinse your mouth with warm salt water rinses 3 to 5 times a day for a week.
Generally, the jaw can hurt from two to seven days depending on how difficult the extraction was and whether or not there was an infection was present. There is no need to worry as long as the pain is reduces every day. Make an appointment to see your dentist if the pain gets worse or if you start to swell.
It can last for a few days to two weeks, but it's best to contact the dentist who did the surgery and let them know.
