very hard to predict because of individual wear and tear and chewing habits, but if you are taking good care of your teeth and the teeth underneath are not compromised and bridge was done properly could be anywhere from 5-10 plus years.
With routine care and regulard dental cleaning visits, bridges can last 8-10 years easy and much longer if you take care of them well.
If it is well maintained by the patient, the bridge covers the entire prepared teeth, bite is balanced and the gums are healthy, bridge could last many many years.
It may last 3-30 years depending on your hygiene, your bite, the pressure of biting and how string the teeth underneath hold. Any bridge may develop cavities.
It is hard to tell how long it is going to last. It depends on patient cooperation such as recall exam and prophy. A minimum of 6 months. A recall exam is highly recommended for the longer maintenance period.
A bridge can last anywhere from 3 years to 30 years. If the patient gets regular checkups and brushes and flosses, it can last a long time. If you neglect regular maintenance, it can get decay around it quickly.
In general, we typically say that a dental crown or bridge lasts 5-10 years, but of course that all depends on the situation. Patients can have problems with dental decay, gum disease or have a bad bite that causes a bridge to fail sooner. But a well-maintained dental bridge in a clean, healthy mouth can even last decades! It all depends on the environment.
This is a question that I hear many times regarding a crown, bridge, or whatever treatment is planned. I will often quote a dentist who edits a monthly newsletter similar to Consumer Reports. He states that a crown or bridge should last 12 years, give or take 10 years Get it? There are so many variables to consider that no one can give you an exact answer. The materials are good enough today that the bridge should last you for many, many years. Another view. .... You just bought a car. How long with that car last? I just saw a GTO from 1968 that looked perfect!
If you look at research on this subject, you will often see a lifetime estimate between 10 and 15 years. That seems low considering many people will pay $3,000 or more for a dental bridge (the cost depends on the number of teeth involved in the prosthesis).
However, a well-done dental bridge that is maintained diligently through daily home care including brushing, flossing, and Waterpik-ing, can last more than 30 years!
I have seen some patients with dental bridges that have been in place for over 40 years.
The key is making sure that plaque cannot settle under bridge teeth and around supporting teeth. The #1 cause of failure on a dental bridge will be tooth decay (a cavity) on one of the supporting teeth or "abutments".
Ask your Family Dentist how best to maintain your dental bridge so you can invest time and effort in protecting your investment.
