If you have sensitivity after your orthodontic adjustments it is advisable before your appointment to take a pain reliever. It's best to always block sensitivity before it starts however if you wait till afterwards then you will probably require more medication to lessen your sensitivity. Tylenol Ibuprofen motrin any of the over the counter items will probably be sufficient.
One advil and one tylenol works... and three times more effective than 2 advil or 2 tylenol. Ortho hack: Try to take 1 hour before your appointment and 6 hours after.
Although it will slow down the movement of your teeth if you take it frequently, NSAID medications like Ibuprofen and Naproxen help significantly with discomfort from orthodontic appliances and you shouldn't have to keep taking them since discomfort abates quickly after your teeth begin to respond to the braces. Just take it for a day or two and you should find that you don't need to keep taking it. That way, the braces can work more effectively since the NSAID medication actually slows down the orthodontic movement.
You should check with your orthodontist to see what the issue is. Depending on the severity of the pain, you may have to be seen if something is not normal. It's pretty common for teeth to be sore/experience some pain with braces if you recently had an adjustment. But better to get it checked out if you're concerned.
