You have to ask your surgeon who is familiar with the nature of your surgery.
This is a tough question to answer in this forum. I would call and talk with the office that saw you for the surgery. There are many types of surgery, and so limited opening is a normal healing part of the process. Please call the office that saw you and find your answers.
This is highly variable depending on the kind of surgery you are having. If you are considering jaw surgery, discuss this with your surgeon in advance.
