Emergency Physician Questions Emergency Physician

I am stopping everything cold turkey today, will I be ok?

I've been taking ashwaganda, rhodiola, fish oil, DHEA, and some other various supplements, and have had a headache for nearly a year. I think they were blocking my gaba receptors because quite a few of those do, I found out recently. I was also taking Epsom salt baths and taking zinc which also blocks GABA receptors. I didn't know why I had a headache for so long. I am stopping everything cold turkey today, when I go in direct sunlight I feel high, and my glands in my neck have been swollen in recent months. I went to the emergency room numerous times and they couldn't tell me what's wrong. It's definitely GABA neurotransmitter-related.

I believe it would be a bit wiser to taper supplement intake over one week. Reduce by 20 percent each day.

That’s difficult to answer without knowing any other prescribed medication that you might be taking. Those, and now I’m in themselves. You should not have any significant withdrawal issues. Maybe a little agitation, a little sleepiness or inability to sleep. But for the most part, they were relatively benign in regards to any type of withdrawals. Before I stop any medication, I would consult with my own physician to make sure that he or she is aware that you’re actually taking the supplements, and you’re going to be removing yourself from them. A suggestion could be that you withdraw yourself from two medications every two weeks so you’re not dropping everything all at once and “shocking your system.“
Be safe, be well, and thank you for asking me. Please always consult with your provider about anything over the counter and anything being prescribed by anything other than that primary care physician

Be well,
