Emergency Physician Questions Emergency Medicine

I don’t know if I should go back to the ER?

I am having severe left side pain- almost like achy pain, my chest feels tense when I breathe. I have stage 3 kidney disease, my right kidney is failing. I went to the ER on Monday having severe side pain, vomiting (only clear liquid), nausea.

Yes, you should go back to the ER or see your PCP today.
If you have chest pain, please do. People with history of CKD are at high risk for heart disease.

Yes, please go back to the ER. They need to clear you for chest pain as well as do a CT of the abdomen to look for a kidney stone and UTI.

Make sure you work closely with your specialist such as the Nephrologist, Pulmonologist and the Cardiologist. When you feel you should visit ER or urgent care, just go. These are exacerbations of your disease.
