“Infection from chemo?”
My mother is going to soon be starting chemo for leukemia. Will this put her at higher risk for infection? What kind?

Yes. Both the leukemia itself as well as chemotherapy increase the risk of infection. Her doctor will recommend some measures to reduce the infection risk.
