Internal cotton stitches?

Do internal cotton stitches ever dissolve or degrade, if so for regular small stitches? How long does it take? Does it take years or few months?

Cotton stitches are still in use and they last a long time. They may not be permanent, but I think they last months to years, but that should not be a problem.
Cotton stitches are no longer used (for many years) since we have much better materials now. If for some reason you had cotton used, it will eventually break down in the body (weeks to months depending on the size), but fragments may last for months.
Normally, weeks.
