Yes, absolutely CBT has a wide range of applications and can help children as well as adults. Be sure to consult with a child therapist who might be the best fit with the right level of expertise.
Yes, cognitive behavior therapies are the treatment of choice for social anxiety. The basic premise is that our thoughts, feelings and behaviors are inter-related, so if we change just the thought or just the behavior, the others will by default change as well. Cognitive therapy techniques focus on on catastrophic beliefs and thinking patterns that social rejection is likely. The exposure therapies will encourage your daughter to engage with social situations that she fears and try to remain in those situations and she will then see that she is okay because she’s okay, not because she has been avoiding situations. (Look up the concept of “safety behaviors” that are “negatively reinforcing” to better understand this idea.
Yes, CBT is effective for most anxiety disorders. Please reach out to a provider to start asap. I always tell my clients the sooner the better and no one has to live with panic attacks. We all have natural anxiety, but if the duration, frequency, and intensity are substantial, then it qualify as a mental health condition/issue. Hope this helps! Remember, Life Coaching can also be a solution, but life coaching is only cash pay, insurances do not cover. Positive side is treatment can be quicker and nationwide. Please reach out if you have additional questions.
