Is a heart transplant necessary after heart failure?

My 67 year old husband is experiencing heart failure. Is a heart transplant necessary after heart failure?

Not necessarily, it depends on how much heart muscle is lost. A transplant is usually the last resort after drugs, a defibrillator, and even an LVAD. But if it’s determined that the failure is so extensive that no other therapy will alleviate the symptoms, then transplant is indicated
