I will have an endoscopy. Is anesthesia necessary for endoscopy?

Yes, normally conscious sedation.
I routinely use anesthesia for endoscopy. It improves the patient and provider experience and is very safe. Granted, it can be done without.
No, usually not. Only conscious or deep sedation IV is given.
