It depends on the diagnosis. In some cases, prolonged bed rest can actually worsen back pain and lead to stiffness and decreased mobility. Instead, the treatment protocol P.O.L.I.C.E. has been recommended:
Protection: Safeguard the injured area to prevent further injury.
Optimal Loading: Gradually engage in controlled movements and exercises that do not exacerbate the pain, promoting healing while maintaining mobility.
Ice: Apply ice to the affected area for 15-20 minutes at a time, several times a day, to reduce swelling and provide pain relief.
Compression: Use compression bandages to minimize swelling and support the injured area, ensuring it’s not too tight.
Elevation: Keep the injured area elevated above heart level to help reduce swelling.
Chiropractors can assist with various tools and techniques such as myofascial release, non-surgical spinal decompression, chiropractic adjustments, ultrasound, and physiotherapies to help manage back pain effectively.

In many cases, REST is a very good approach to an injury. It decreases
likelihood of more injury and allows inflammation to decrease in the
meantime. If it doesn't resolve or improve, I suggest a visit to a
reputable Chiropractor. Hope I helped. Got your back! Dr. Todd Gewant

The answer to whether bed rest is good for back pain depends on how your injury occurred. Bed rest may be appropriate for a very short time but it would be best to seek a licensed and trained professional to determine the course of your needs.
Generally, NO. It is better to load and unload the back with intermittent activity, even if it is only a nice easy stroll. Occasionally, (with severe back pain), a day or two of bed rest is OK. If you're asking, you should get that checked out ASAP.
Not really, need to move, walk, stretches and use ice 20 min on, hour off, 20 on etc. to reduce inflammation/pain. Not moving will cause more pain and stiffness.
Laying down can help take the edge off of back pain and may feel better compared to standing and sitting. You could also add some ice to your back while laying down. However there are effective methods of helping you with your back pain like chiropractic, PT, massage, Acupuncture so you can get back to your life.
This all depends on what is causing your low back pain. If degenerative changes are causing your pain (which is unlikely at your age) then walking and movement can help relieve the pain and make your body generally more functional. However, if your back pain was caused by an injury or even a disc herniation, then rest is what you need to get better. For more information, check out our website at portolavalleychiro.com
