Any surgery has inherent risk most related to your current medical history such as diabetes, bleeding disorders, osteoporosis, cancer, etc. Usually implant surgery is not much different from extracting a tooth, often there's less post op discomfort compared to an extraction. A skilled dentist will be prepared ahead of time regarding the implant placement to avoid nerve or sinus impingement or avoid neighboring teeth. Millions of implant surgeries are performed with minimal incidents.
Dental implants are a safe and long-lasting solution to missing teeth, whether they replace one, several teeth. Young, old or middle-aged, most patients are viable candidates – growing children are the only exception, as their teeth and jawbones are still developing. Check with your dentist if you are a good candidate for implants.
