General anesthesia is preferred. Alternatively, one could have a Monitored Anesthesia Care (MAC), also called conscious sedation whereby you have sedation but not deeply asleep.
No, usually no. But you get IV sedation with Propofol and you pretty much do not know anything that is going on.
