Urologist Questions Urologist

Is it normal to even have a trace of blood in urine?

I had a urinalysis 7 days ago after what I thought I had gallbladder issues. Urine showed +3 for microscopic blood. Bun and creatinine all normal and always have been on blood work. All other urinalysis numbers were negative. Could this be because my period just ended the day before? Wven though the last day of the period was super light. I have been doing at-home dipsticks since then and usually, they are normal. There were a few times where it looked like there was a faint trace on the dipstick. Do you think this is anything to worry about? Is it normal to even have a trace of blood in urine?

Depending on your other risk factors (history of smoking, family history of kidney or bladder cancer, etc.) and findings on microscopic evaluation (not a dip stick), an ultrasound of the kidney and a possible look in the bladder may be warranted. A single dipstick being positive may be a false positive.
With no other symptoms, I may consider the sample you tested may be contaminated from your period. I recommend you repeat U/A to confirm.

In females, it is common to see blood in the urine around their periods. Hydrate and repeat the urinalysis between your periods.
