Is it normal to have gum pain after getting crown?

I got a dental crown yesterday and my gums hurt after that. Is it normal? What should I do?

Yes, for a short period of time after the crown is placed. If this is not fading away or if the discomfort persists more than a few days contact your dentist and have it evaluated.
It is normal to feel some discomfort right after final crown cementation. If the chewing pain continues you need to go back to your dentist for a crown adjustment. Very often pain indicates just a minor chewing surface interference ( high point).
It is possible and is dependent on where and how the Dr. designed the crown to fit on the tooth, the closer to the gingiva (gum) the more likely there will be some inflammation afterward. This is expected to resolve quickly with cautious home care.
