Sometimes it takes a while to subside. Having any treatment in your mouth is going to take some time for your body to fully recovery. Proper nutrition, healthy diet and getting good sleep are vital to your recovery. Sometimes a doctor will recommend A good probiotics for oral health And your gut health as well as nontoxic oral products for a better recovery. Feel free to reach out with any more questions. Yes, it is normal to have some discomfort after root canal treatment. As we instrument the canals a lot and push a lot of medications. Some tissue discomfort is usual. Make sure to do warm saline water rinses atleast 3 to 4 times a day for a week. That helps resolve tissue inflammation.

Thank you for asking this question ! Yes, Pain after root canal therapy is normal. However, it depends on the vatality, the health, the severity of the infection of the pulp ( i.e. the nerve ), the amount of swelling around the infected tooth and etc.. For example, there are a couple of clinical conditions, which we called (i) Nacrotic pulp and (ii) Chronic Apical Suppurative Periodontitis. In these two conditions, the nerve is already dead. By properly removal of the pulpal tissue, disinfection, and obturation ( i.e. seal up the canals), the post-operative pain should be minimal. On the other hand, if there were a lot of infection, swelling, pus oozing out, or imcomplete removal of the infected pulp tissue after the root canal treatment, then there will be more likely to have post-operative pain, which will last longer. If your dentist is doing everything “By-the-text Book”, then ask your dentists to prescrib some over-the-counter anti-inflammatory pain medication to help controlling the pain. Most of the time the pain shall deminish in one-two two weeks. If the pain last for more than a month, then there could something problems underlying it. I hope that it helps you. God bless you !
