“Is prostate biopsy risky?”
I will have a prostate biopsy. Is prostate biopsy risky?

Any surgical procedure has their risk. the main thing that happens after a probate biopsy is pain in the area between the anus and the scrotum is common from few days to several weeks. Also, blood in the urine can be found for a few days to few weeks. Fever, pain or burning sensation during urination could be an indication of infection. Consult your healthcare provider. Thank you.
Bleeding complications are unlikely unless you are on aspirin-like medications or blood thinners, which your doctor should have asked you to stop prior to the procedure. Infections occur in less than 5%, but can be serious if not quickly treated. Impotence is rare, but many men will have some blood in their ejaculate for weeks, or may have decreased libido from the stress of wondering if they have cancer.
I think for most men the value of the information it provides overrides the risk of the procedure itself.
