Internist Questions Flu Shot

Is there a best time of year to get the flu shot?

Last year I got my flu shot in October and the doctor was concerned because it was "late". I was not aware of this - when is the best time to get a flu shot?

Currently the Center for disease control says as soon as the vaccine is available.
September
Best time to get the flu shot is October and November, every year. It protects you till March of the following year.
Sept -Dec
The recommendation is to get the flu shot as soon as available. It takes 2 weeks for it to start working, that may be why October may be late since there might already be influenza and immunity is not yet available.
Yes. This year the CDC is predicting an early flu season. It takes 2 weeks after vaccination for the body to make the necessary antibodies. Ideally, the vaccine should be given starting the 3rd week of September.
That is probably good you had your flu shots at that time of the year to be able to develop an immune system for when the flu season really sets in.
October, November or December or as soon as you hear there is flu in your area.
