My child has hives?

My 2 year old has hives that come and go sometimes in-between hours. Sometimes on the face. Can I have a 2 year old on Benadryl for hives? Or should I take her to the emergency room?

This condition is called intermittent urticaria and is allergic in nature, if the chid is stable and breathing normal and looking good eating well then no need to take ti emergency , no need to give Benadryl also because it is not acute allergic reaction it is chronic and intermittent
You need to see your pediatrician, when your son is having one of those episodes, if you can get a video that will help to try to find the cause.
Benadryl is a safe and effective medication to relieve the itching from hives in a 2 yr old, not associated with a life-threatening allergic reaction. Knowing what has caused the hives is an important piece of information and can help direct treatment in the future.
Hives are not uncommon and yes, you can treat them with Benadryl. They are not serious so I do not see a reason to go to the ER but you should see the pediatrician for instructions on how to treat them properly.

The cause is probably not a classic allergy, as these are usually very obvious to patients or parents. Blind allergy testing will just be confusing and is not necessary. Recommend Zyrtec 5 mg twice a day if necessary. A medical evaluation ( not allergy testing ) may be necessary if the hives persist for more than six weeks.
