My daughter takes insulin daily?

My 8 years old daughter takes daily insulin. Is there any possible side effects?

Hypoglycemia is the biggest risk of insulin administration and can be life-threatening. Fat necrosis can occur at the injection sites if not rotated and cared for properly. NOT taking insulin as prescribed can lead to hyperglycemia and diabetic ketoacidosis, which can also be life-threatening. It is imperative that an insulin-dependent diabetic be compliant with both
medication dosing regimens as well as dietary instructions. Checking blood sugars often and urines as recommended is critically important as well.

The only side effect you have to be aware is hypoglycemia
Dear Patient,

Only side effect of todays insulin preparations is low sugar (hypoglycemia). Insulin is the key to managing type 1 diabetes, which I assume your daughter has. Good sugar management will prevent or slow down the major complications of diabetes including kidney disease, visual problems, neuropathies as well as cardiovascular defects. It is the treatment of choice and has helped many children achieve a normal adulthood including pregnancies. Learn the keys to preventing low sugar such not as missing meals, preventing exercise induced hypoglycemia and proper insulin dosage.
