OB-GYN (Obstetrician-Gynecologist) Questions OB-GYN

Period?

If I have not have regular periods in my life and I started when I was 12 and I’m now 18. They still aren’t regular and I haven’t had a period since August of last year and I finally started April 13 but I’m still on it and it’s heavy and I went to my family doctor and he said it seems like I’m low on estrogen and I was wondering if I could get pregnant or not since my periods are so messed up.

You need a blood test to determine your hormone level. Your ob/gyn may also do an ultrasound to look at the ovaries. With proper diagnosis and treatment, you will be able to get pregnant.

From your narrative, it is likely you may be having a typical disorder known as Polycystic Ovarian Syndrome, which is noted for such irregular menses. Given your last menses was Aug 2020 through April 2021, a period of 28 weeks (7 months), should be pregnant signs/symptoms of pregnant would be known. Could you still have been pregnant? Could it still be possible? Yes, but not likely. My suggestion is discuss a thorough work-up with your Physician for PCOS and be treated for same. This may improve and possibly make your cycle regular.
Yes, you can get pregnant. It is likely that your periods are off because of months that you are not ovulating. In most cases this is because of Polycystic Ovarian Syndrome. Make an appointment with a gynecologist for this because women with this syndrome are at risk for endometrial cancer when not having regular cycles.
Yes, you can get pregnant in the future, you may need medication. If it’s PCOS, you will need a medication (Clomid) when you are trying to get pregnant. See your OBGyn for a consult for sure to do some blood work and to have all your questions answered.
Take care!
