OB-GYN (Obstetrician-Gynecologist) Questions

Pregnancy

I found out about 3 weeks ago that I was pregnant by an at home test. I went that same week for blood work and it came back that I did have hcg levels in my blood. About a week later on a Wednesday I started bleeding. It started off as light bleeding but as the day went on it got heavier with some clotting. The bleeding lasted about how long my period would. I then went to the ER the next day and they really didn’t tell me much other than to get blood work to see if my HCG levels have risen or fallen. I went for more blood work today to see. I was thinking maybe it is a chemical pregnancy but I still am not to sure.

In normal healthy pregnancies, the hormone of pregnancy should roughly double every 48 hours. In miscarriages, the hormone level usually halves every 5 days. They are checking serial HCG levels to see if levels are going up or down.
This is probably late, but we don't know the answer either. I would guess miscarriage early in pregnancy (chemical pregnancy) but the HCG levels will tell the story. If they are going down, you are losing the pregnancy. If they are going up, then you could still have a normal pregnancy or an ectopic pregnancy. You would need more HCG levels and ultrasounds to see where the pregnancy is. How fast the HCG levels are rising would give us a clue as to what is happening. Statistically, you are most likely having a miscarriage. Good luck
