Cardiologist Questions

Prolonged Chest Pain

I went to the hospital a week ago for chest pain (mainly on the leftside), difficulty breathing, lightheaded, all worse when trying to sleep. Ekg was abnormal, xray normal, blood work fairly normal, but Ive had hypertension (new for me) since it started and the chest pains have never gone away, but get worse from small activity. I am barely sleeping because of all this, wake up after a few hours out of breath and heart racing, sometimes my head is light and I’ll feel very out if it too. Im scheduled for a cardiologist in two and a half weeks but this feels more urgent than that to me. Ive smoked heavily for almost 8 years and Im worried this isnt being taken seriously. My question is should I wait until the appointment or am I right to think that thats a risk I shouldn’t take?

Feeling "out of it" and prolonged chest pain are not typical features of chest pain originating with the heart. What did the EKG show (not just "abnormal"; if specifically abnormal I would have expected hospital admission)? Why has a 20-year-old smoked heavily for almost 8 years? If you are concerned about your health you should stop smoking.
You are pretty young and low-risk. but you should still see someone. Sounds like it's palpitations, you should see a cardiologist and get a Holter monitor.
