Qlaira & DHEA?

I am 38 and have been diagnosed with perimenopause. The Dr has put me on Qlaira, but I would like to find out if I can take an OTC DHEA supplement with the oral contraceptive or is it risky?

Hello!
Birth control pills are the best way to regulate your period and stabilize hormonal fluctuations associated with perimenopause.
There is no particular danger in taking additional OTC DHEA- but these kinds of products are not regulated or quality controlled so it’s hard to say what you’re actually getting. Also DHEA breaks down in your system to Estradiol and Testosterone, but there’s no way to know what the breakdown amounts will be.
Hope that helps.
