Question about research on wearing masks?

Hello, I hope it is alright if I ask this question here as I am not sure where else to ask a physician concerning my question. And so my question is, are masks truly effective, and what scientific research articles prove it so that I may back up my answers with facts?

I have looked through multiple sources and have found opposing opinions and research articles on wearing face masks. I have pasted a link below that leads to another doctor's blog on why masks are ineffective and it sounds really convincing as it also contains research articles. I have found other research articles that also state how wearing masks are effective and so it can be confusing when looking for the most objective answer.

The source of the advice is always important to consider. The leader of quality advice regarding the pandemic is the Center for Disease Control (CDC) and if their advice had been followed a bit more, we would have more of our country alive, today. Their website should be on your laptop, tablet & phone & you would do will to study their information. It is sobering.
