Ear, Nose and Throat Doctor (ENT) Questions Ear, Nose and Throat (ENT)

Should I go to the ER?

I’ve been having cold-like symptoms for about a week now. I’ve had a cough, stuffy nose, all around not feeling well. The last 3-4 days I’ve had a really bad sore throat and every day I’ve woke up with a worse earache than the previous day on my right side. I finally decided to look at my throat with a flashlight and I can see they are very very swollen. I can make my tonsils touch each other but they are about the width of my thumb away from each other when I’m not making them touch each other. They also look white, they look like tonsil stones but I don’t think they are stones. It hurts to swallow everything. I’ve taken OVC cold medicine and ibuprofen as well as cough drops to try and help ease the pain but nothing is working. Should I make a trip to the ER?

Symptoms of possible tonsillitis and possible infectious mononucleosis will give rise to these problems. Primary CARE physicians can elucidate and also emergency room or urgent
care can help to determine the etiology of the symptoms.
