“Should I go to the dentist if my gums are bleeding under my dental bridge?”
I got a dental bridge 5 days ago. I noticed today that my gums bleed under my bridge. Should I see a dentist?

There could be a number of reasons for bleeding under a bridge. It could be the design of the bridge, leftover cement under the bridge, or perhaps you were not instructed on how to maintain the bridge. Best to seek professional help sooner rather than later.
Absolutely I would call your dentist office and make an appointment to be evaluated. Don’t hesitate to call your dentist and I am sure they would want to know your particular complaint so they can remedy this to maintain a healthy dentition.
Yes, something is causing that area to be inflamed and thus bleed. See your dentist to identify the source of the inflammation before it turns into a bigger problem.
When you have a bridge, you need to keep the area under the "false" tooth clean. Plaque and debris under this area the pontic can cause gum or gingivitis irritation. Using floss threads will aid in this. I am sure the dentist that placed the bridge would be happy to see you and not only check the area, but also instruct you further on the technique of keeping the bridge clean.
Common factors that can irritate gum tissue & cause bleeding gums under a dental bridge are:
- food accumulation / impaction under the bridge.
- Cement retention around the crown margin that wasn’t removed by the dentist.
- the crown margins does not flush well with the tooth causing food accumulation.
You should probably get it checked by your dentist.

Call your dentist who placed the bridge. Obviously, any bleeding is not normal but there may have been some mild trauma when placing the bridge. If the bridge doesn't have sufficient clearance under it or you are having difficulty cleaning under the bridge, your dentist can help you take proper care of your new bridge. There are multiple hygienic tools available to prevent debris building up under the appliance.
If the gums under your bridge are bleeding, then it means that they are inflamed and irritated. The most common cause of this would be food that is trapped under it or bacterial tartar tags they have built up underneath it. I would highly recommend a visit to your dentist to have this properly evaluated and treated.
